UNDER 11 RULES FOR CRICKET
1 MATCH DETAILS 1.1 Players shall be under 11 years of age at October 1 1998 1.2 A team shall consist of a minimum of 7 players. If a team has less than 7 players 30 minutes after the declared starting time, a win shall be awarded to the opposing team. A social match can then be arranged between all players present. 1.3 For teams with 7 to 10 players, fielders can be loaned from the opposing team. 1.4 Play shall commence at 8.30 am and cease at 11.30 am or when each side has been dismissed or received a minimum of 24 (maximum 26) overs. If the 24 overs are not finished at 9.55 the innings break shall be taken immediately and the second team shall receive the same number of overs. 1.5 There shall be a 10 minutes change over period between innings and a 5 minute break after each 12 overs. Breaks may be taken more frequently if conditions warrant. 1.6 The pitch shall be the normal hard type of 20.12 metres (22 yards) and boundaries shall be marked 40 metres from the centre of the pitch. 1.7 Play shall be reduced by 6 balls (one over) for each 3 minutes lost through poor weather (16 over match minimum for each side). 1.8 The ball shall be a red indoor PVC cricket ball of 113 gm weight. 9.Coaches are encouraged to arrange quarters cricket games especially when the weather is hot. 1.10 A player who bleeds for any reason shall leave the field of play immediately unless the injury can be attended to on the field to the satisfaction of the umpires. Normal rules for leaving the field shall apply.
2 BATTING 2.1 Pads, gloves, and protectors shall be worn by all batters. 2.2 Each batter is limited to 6 overs before being retired. Batters to retire at the end of the over. 2.3 All batters retired not out, can bat again after all remaining batters have had an innings. Their return is in order of retirement. Batters dismissed first ball (2.6) do not have this privilege. 2.4 The batting order shall be rotated on a weekly basis so that each player has experience of all situations. (This must be strictly adhered to.) 2.5 No LBW decisions shall be given. However coaches/umpires are to discourage (in a positive way) the deliberate use of pads to protect the wickets. 2.6 Batters cannot be given out if dismissed on the first playable ball of their innings. The bowler, however, is given credit for any wicket taken off a first ball. If later, the batter is dismissed or retires, the player shall take no further part in the batting innings. 2.7 Teams bat until the fall of the 10th wicket or on the completion of the allotted overs. Players of teams of less than 11 may return to bat a second time in order of dismissal. Wickets taken off first balls, count as wickets, but if the batter is dismissed a second time, the dismissal does not count again.
3 BOWLING 3.1 Each player shall bowl an equal number of overs where possible. (Each player to bowl a minimum of 2 overs and a maximum of 3 depending on side numbers and whether the batting side stays in or not.) 3.2 No bowler shall bowl more than two overs until all other players have bowled 2 overs. 3.3 The wicket keeper shall be changed during each innings. 3.4 The bowling order shall be rotated on a weekly basis so that each player has experience of all situations. 3.5 "No Ball" shall be called on delivery when: (a) Part of a bowlers front foot, whether grounded or not, is not behind the popping crease. (Except where Rule 3.7 applies) (b) Part of a bowlers back foot is outside the line of the return crease. (c) A ball passes above shoulder height or above the waist on the full in the batters normal stance. (d) More than 5 fielders are on the leg side, or more than 2 fielders are behind square leg. (e) A fielder stands within the semi-circle 10 metres forward of the batter on strike. (f) A ball hits the edge of the pitch. NOTE A "No Ball" is not re-bowled 3.6 "Wide Ball" shall be called when the ball passes outside the strikers return crease. NOTE (a) A "Wide" is not called if the batter hits the ball. (b) A "Wide" is not re-bowled. 3.7 Any bowler unable to bowl reasonable balls from wicket to wicket may be permitted to bowl from a shortened pitch at the discretion of the umpire.
4 FIELDING 4.1 The wicket keeper shall wear gloves, pads and a protector. 4.2 No fielder shall stand within the semi-circle 10 metres forward of the batter on strike. Note this is a compulsory safety precaution. 4.3 The batter at the non strikers end shall not be dismissed by the bowler before the ball is delivered on the first occasion. If batters persist in this practice then they shall be given out.
5 MATCH RESULT The side attaining the greater number of runs shall be declared the winner.
6 POINTS TO BE AWARDED Win 6 points Tie 4 points each Draw or cancellation 3 points each Loss 1 point Forfeit 0 points NOTE For teams equal on points the final position will be determined by the quotient system. The batting average of a team shall be obtained by dividing the total number of runs scored for, by the total number of wickets lost by that team. The batting average against shall be obtained by dividing the total number of runs scored against by the total number of wickets taken. The former shall be divided by the latter and that team having the higher quotient shall be considered to have the better performance. 7 FINALS Finals shall be in the form of a round robin series of teams of equitable ability (teams finishing one to four play each other, teams finishing five to eight play each other, and so on depending on the number of teams). |
